Got itchy today ... already wanting to make changes to our home...to make it more... me.
Our TV room is BORING! I haven't known what to do with it so its just sat there with the TV and 2 lounges in it....no decore, no cushions or mats or anything to make it look like home...
Over the last 4 months ideas have evolved ... the creative juices have flowed and I now know what I want to do it that room!
Ive always LOVED tongue and groove wall paneling... but didn't think this room was appropriate for it...so decided to do a photo shelf the full length of one wall and paint a feature colour underneath the rail to add a pop of colour and a feature to the room.
I hit Bunnings up (our hardware store) today with my measurements ready to rock and roll... stood at the paint swatches and nothing grabbed me... It needed more.
Just a feature colour was not gonna cut it... I looked at the wall papers...NOPE! Nothing grabbed me... Then I thought... TEXTURE!
Texture is what this room needs. It needs to look used and loved. Homely and recycled.
So Ive decided to a add a dado rail an inch above our colonial skirting board, then MDF tongue and groove panelling 3/4 up the wall high capped with a photo shelf!!!
AWESOME!!!!
I love it when the idea falls into your head and you just know its going to work :)
This (ABOVE) will be what caps off the paneling. Perfect to fill with family photos and antique pictures.
I also love this idea, with tiny shelf brackets, full of shape and character!
Im loving this sea green colour, which I somehow what to incorporate into the room... either painting the paneling white and adding the colour as a feature on top of the photo rail...or distressing the panelling with this colour.
With this being the only room in the house with panelling...I don't want it to look odd... so I'm also thinking of incorporating it into my bedroom...but differently... by laying it horizontally. The whole wall, caped by a dado rail and inch above the colonial skirting and an inch below the cornices.
This will defiantly add more character to our home at a low cost.
Im excited to see it evolve over the next few weeks ...
