For any busy mum...or any mum, busy or not, the slow cooker can be one of your greatest investments!
You literally throw your meat and vegies in, go about your day...and dinner is ready when you are!
Roast...
When people say they are cooking a roast, most people think they have gone to a great extent to prepare a lovely dinner... I now know 'The Roast' is one of the easiest and quickest meals for a family! TRUE!
In the morning put your roast in the slow cooker add half a cup of water and a gravy mix...something like this...
You don't even have to defrost your roast...just throw those 3 things in your slow cooker, turn it on low and walk away! (this needs to happen before 10am) Now an hour before your ready to eat, cut up chunky pieces of potato, pumpkin, carrot, onion, squash or zuchinni sprinkle some oil, salt and pepper over them and throw them in your oven for an hour on about 180 degrees. You might like to boil some peas, corn or broccoli or even throw a garlic bread in the oven too... Once those vegies are roasted, your ready to eat!! How quick and easy is that!!!
Go on try it!! Your meat will be soooo tender and taste amazing.... add a tablespoon or two of flour into the roast juices, give it a quick wisk...and there is your gravy! AMAZING!
There is sooo many recipes you can do in a slow cooker... tonight I have cut up some cheap meat and added the above packet and water and some diced vegies... once its cooked im going to bake it in some puff pastry to make a meat and vegie pie!
I have made soups...throw in your pumpkin, water, stock, onion, garlic...cook, blend, add cream...pumpkin soup...
I have made bolinase sauce... throw in your mince, diced tomato's, grated carrot, zuchinni and diced mushrooms, add a tin of tomato soup, and herbs....come back 4 hours or so later, good stir and there is your bolinase sauce...all you need to do is boil your spaghetti!
Tonight's dinner cooking...
Yummo!! If you haven't gotten your slow cooker out for a while now is the time to dust it off and get cooking!
If your a slow cooker fan, comment some more recipe ideas!! I look forward to trying them! Yippee!
