Luke's 5th Lego Birthday Party
Background update: I use to be a wedding and event planner and decorator... for 4 years before I had kids...we sold our little business when Luke was 12 months old so I could become a full-time mummy and move to the city for my husbands work.
I had so much fun in this job! I had great job satisfaction. I worked my butt off, but loved every moment.
.....so planning a party for 8 little boys really wasn't hard work... it was fun!
I am able to let the creative juices flow and the imagination go into over drive :)
Luke was allowed to invite 5 friends to his 5th birthday...plus his brother and a couple of siblings of his friends, the total came to 8.
Luke chose the Lego theme...and I could work with that :)
Here it is...
The boys had a table to eat at so they weren't standing around a dessert table. I find this so much easier for the kids.
You can usually hire kids trestle tables from your local party hire... or you could buy a trestle table from your local hardware store and cut down the legs to the appropriate hight.
The plates are just yellow plastic plates from spotlight that I have drawn lego faces onto with a black permanent marker.
The cake was my first attempt with fondent icing, I was lucky to have a friend who knew what she was doing help me with it....and teach me along the way :)
I made fondent Lego men for the cake...it was so much fun! Like playing with play-doe :)
We used some of the Lego creations that Boyd and Luke had built together as dessert table decorations.
These (below) are lego head mellow pops. Marshmallows, coated in yellow candy melts, with chocolate eyes and smiles.
The sticks are stuck into a floristry oasis that was wrapped in wrapping paper - EASY!
With the left over cake pop sticks, I did fruit stacks...every boy likes to eat food off a stick!
My sister and I made these sugar cookies and added upside down m&m's - glued them on with melted chocolate to make them look like Lego block pieces.
A party wouldn't be complete without HONEY JOYS!
To add something savoury, and one of Luke favourites, we did Lego blocks with Salada crakers, cheese and gerkins.
Each setting had a contrast of the LEGO colours. The boys loved their green drinks!
All the boys around the table!
Our Birthday boy!
Happy Birthday Mate! So proud of you. You're a God sent miracle and we are so honoured to be your mum and dad :)
So blessed with 5 awesome little friends to celebrate with.
...and he has asked for ANOTHER LEGO PARTY, when he turns 6!.... may have to persuade him into something different to keep it interesting :)
