The School for Field Studies continues to track Hurricane Tomas. A hurricane warning remains in place for the Turks and Caicos Islands. Tomas’ approach has slowed slightly, and current reports predict that the storm will pass over or near the Turks and Caicos Islands on Friday night and early Saturday morning. While Tomas’ center is not projected to pass over South Caicos, our hurricane plan is in place, and we are currently moving students and staff to our shelter on South Caicos. All in the group have been helpful, team players through this process.
As was mentioned in the last update, it is possible that power and cellular service will be lost due to the storm. Restoring services to the island can be a prolonged process. If this occurs, SFS will communicate with its staff via satellite phone, and then deliver updates to parents of students through e-mail.
